Material Design Solar Clock

Concept - fun weekend project

I live an outdoors oriented life where daylight is generally pretty useful.

I wanted a better way to see how much daylight I have, so I made a clock.

The challenge

When you're deep in the woods on a mountain bike trail ride, deciding at the fork in the road, it's just not enough to know the sunset time. We aren't all perfect accountants of time, and it can be hard to gauge how much you can get done in X number of hours/minutes.

There has to be a better way.

My approach

This weekend project attempts to show your day as a circular graph, with the portion of daylight clearly represented. The behavior intent is that seeing how much daylight has passed will help inform decisions about how much daylight is ahead.

The white line corresponds to sunrise and sunset, and shifts daily to reflect changes through the year.

The impact

This is a project for fun, and I'd love to meet any developers interesting in helping me bring this to a reality!
